Posted October 14th, 2005 Media Buzz

SAN DIEGO, California (October 2005) – A dynamic and inspiring community leader with deep San Diego roots, Evans Hotels President and CEO Grace Evans Cherashore was honored earlier this month as one of the Women Who Mean Business in San Diego in 2005. The prestigious local award program, now in its twelfth year, recognizes the accomplishments and contributions of women business leaders and role models in the San Diego community.

At the ceremony in San Diego, October 6, Mrs. Cherashore received the honor in recognition of her long and visionary career in the city’s tourism and banking industries as well as her contributions as a passionately dedicated volunteer in local health care and education.

During her tenure of over 20 years, the Evans Hotels company has expanded with brilliant success in the hospitality industry and has established itself as a local leader in employee benefit, compensation, recognition, and training programs. The newest Evans property, the Lodge at Torrey Pines, earned Five Diamond status within months of its opening and remains the only hotel with this rating in San Diego.

Mrs. Cherashore started her business career as a real estate lender with Wells Fargo Bank, and has held key leadership positions in several San Diego financial institutions as well as the board of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation and the Finance Committee of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.

In her ongoing volunteer efforts in the community, Mrs. Cherashore has expressed her enduring commitment to improving local health care, education, and job training. She has served as vice president of finance and administration at the San Diego chapter of the American Cancer Society, board member for the San Diego State University School of Business, and Steering Committee member for the University of California, San Diego, Economics Roundtable. Currently, she serves as trustee and treasurer of The Bishop’s School in La Jolla and executive committee and board member for the San Diego Workforce Partnership.

The 12th Annual Women Who Mean Business Awards were sponsored by the San Diego Business Journal, Foley & Lardner LLP, and Accountemps Specialized Financial Staffing.
