Welcome to the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa Guest Room and Resort Policies

In order to make every guest’s experience as pleasant as possible, we request your cooperation in observing the following policies as part of the agreement between you and the Catamaran. We reserve all rights to refuse service to any guests who do not follow or comply with these policies.

Rooms and Suites Overview

Arrival and Departure

Guest check-in is after 4:00 p.m. on arrival day. Check-out is no later than 12:00 p.m. noon on departure day.

We are happy to accommodate early arrivals, subject to availability at check-in. If you arrive before 4:00 p.m. and your room is not available, we will be pleased to store your luggage until your room is ready.

Requests for late check-outs are not guaranteed and may incur additional charges. Late check-out requests should be made the day prior to departure to the front desk. We will be pleased to store your luggage on departure day should we be unable to accommodate a late check-out request.

Resort Fee

A daily resort fee of $34 allows all guests to enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi access in guest rooms and public areas, our bird exhibit, use of beach chairs and umbrellas (subject to availability), towels at the resort pool, access to indoor/outdoor bay front fitness center, access to outdoor swimming pool and whirlpool, two in-room bottled waters per day, USA Today newspaper in the lobby each morning, and complimentary local and domestic long-distance phone calls.


Our guest room cancellation policy varies depending upon the time of year, rate package and whether you booked directly with us. For reservations made directly with us, your specific cancellation policy will be displayed or quoted at the time of reservation, and also appear in your reservation confirmation email. Reservations cancelled after your cancellation deadline will be subject to a cancellation fee of one night room and tax. Reservations through third parties may be subject to different cancellation policies.

Guest Room Taxes

Room rates are subject to prevailing city transient occupancy tax, San Diego Tourism Marketing District Assessment, and California Tourism Assessment Tax at the time of your stay. As of the date these policies are posted, taxes and mandatory assessments are 10.5%, 2% and $.62 per room per night respectively, and are subject to change by the City of San Diego and the California Travel and Tourism Commission.

Special Requests

The Catamaran will try to honor special requests (such as a specific floor, bed type, rollaway bed, or crib). However, availability cannot be guaranteed in advance, and some restrictions apply. Please notify us of your special requests upon booking your reservation.


The Catamaran is pleased to offer a limited number of accessible rooms. Please call us directly at (858) 488-1081 to make your reservation for an accessible room or please note your accessible room request in the comments section of your online reservations.

Room Occupancy

The maximum room occupancy is set at 6 persons (effective 24 hours). All guests must be registered to the room and no non-registered guests allowed in rooms at any time. No gatherings are permitted at the hotel, either in the room or outside of it (patio, grass area, etc.) Guests may be charged an additional amount per room night for each additional person over the standard room occupancy. Children 17 years and under may share the same room with their parents at no additional charge (up to a maximum of four children, subject to room type). The number of additional guests/room above double occupancy is subject to maximum occupancy limits and safety rules set by the Catamaran.

Quiet Time

To assure our guests to enjoy a peaceful environment, we have a “zero noise policy” effective at 10:00 p.m. If you or your guests cause an unreasonable disturbance to others before 10:00 p.m., one warning will be given to you to reduce noise. If this warning is not followed or the disturbance occurs after 10:00 p.m., you will forfeit all advance deposits and must leave the hotel immediately. The Catamaran reserves the right to evict a guest without warning if the circumstances warrant. Additionally, guests are liable for all damage to or theft of the property of the Catamaran. Your participation is appreciated as it helps assure a safe and restful stay for everyone.

Method of Payment

We accept cash and all major credit and debit cards. We do not accept checks.

Guest Registration

Guests are required to present a valid photo identification at the time of check-in, such as a driver’s license, valid passport or other government-issued photo identification.

During registration, we will require an acceptable credit or debit card. The card presented will be authorized at check-in for the estimated amount of your entire stay (room and applicable taxes, plus incidentals). We reserve the right to make additional authorizations during your stay should your charges exceed the originally approved amount. The authorization will hold the funds until check out, at which time the actual amount incurred during the stay will be charged. Please be advised that if you choose to use your debit card, it may take 5 to 15 business days for the credit hold on your bank account to be released after check-out. The Catamaran is not responsible for overdraft charges incurred due to hold.


Prior to or at the time of check-in, the Catamaran requires a parent, legal guardian or other responsible adult to assume, in writing, full liability for all charges and other obligations incurred by an unaccompanied minor seeking to check-in to the hotel.


The Catamaran offers self-parking or valet parking service. Self-parking is not allowed in the valet lot or guest registration area. The self-parking rate is $34 per day, and the valet service is $40 per day. One car per occupied guest room may be parked on property. Over-sized recreational vehicles may not park on hotel property. The Catamaran is not responsible for loss of or damage to your vehicle or its contents.

Smoking Policy

The Catamaran is committed to providing its guests and associates with a smoke-free environment. Our resort and all of our guest rooms are non-smoking. This policy also applies to electronic smoking devices such as e-cigarettes. The Catamaran reserves the right to charge any guest who violates the smoking policy the premium room rate for each night the room is deemed not rentable due to the scent of smoke.

BBQ Equipment Policy

For the safety, comfort, and well-being of all of our guests, the following items are not permitted at the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa:  

  • Personal Fire Pits
  • Charcoal Grills
  • Gas Grills 
  • Propane Grills
  • Any type of outdoor cooking equipment

These items are not permitted anywhere on hotel property, including your patio or balcony and the areas adjacent to your rooms. Guest are welcome to use any of these items in accordance with City of San Diego rules and regulations on the public beach.

Beach Equipment Policy

For the safety, comfort, and well-being of all of our guests, the following items are not permitted at the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa:  

  • Tents larger than 5x5 Feet
  • “EZ-Ups” of any size
  • Portable Canopies of any size
  • Lean-tos of any size
  • Sun Shades or Sport Umbrellas larger than 5x5 Feet

These items are not permitted anywhere on hotel property, including your patio or balcony and the areas adjacent to your rooms. Guest are welcome to use any of these items in accordance with City of San Diego rules and regulations on the public beach.


We are pleased to welcome one housebroken dog per guest room weighing 50 lbs. or less, or two smaller dogs (with a combined weight of 75 lbs. or less). There is a non-refundable room cleaning fee of $75 on the day of check-in for guests with dogs. There are no charges for service animals. Dogs must be leashed at all times while outside of your guest room. We also ask that you consider other guests during your stay, and avoid leaving your dog unattended in your guest room. If the need arises for you to leave your dog unattended, we recommend arranging for a responsible dog-sitter in advance.

Guest Property

For your convenience and security, small safes are provided in each guest room to store your valuable belongings. The Catamaran cannot be responsible for any loss, theft, or damage to guests’ property.

Vacation Package Offers

Package components (e.g. dining, park tickets) should be reserved at time of booking to ensure availability. No refunds will be made for unused package components. Packages do not include service charge or taxes unless otherwise stated. Gratuities are not included with any packages.

If We Must Make a Change

We do not anticipate any need to make changes to your reservations. Sometimes, however, changes are unavoidable and we reserve the right to make changes if necessary. In the unlikely event an overbooking occurs due to an unforeseen stay over or any other circumstance, and a room is not available to a guest holding a confirmed reservation, the Catamaran will arrange and pay for the guest’s first night’s accommodation at another nearby hotel. If the guest has paid an advance deposit, this amount will be refunded to the guest. The Catamaran will attempt to notify the guest as soon as it is practical to do so.
